Abstract Clouds are the primary source of uncertainty in prediction climate change. To reduce cloud simulations and overcome this difficulty prediction, many modeling centers now developing a new type model, global nonhydrostatic atmospheric which reduces arising from cumulus parameterization by computing clouds explicitly using microphysics scheme. Among models used recent intercomparison studies, NICAM aims to project change improving our understanding changes due warming related physical processes. is first model was developed research team. This review summarizes outcomes major five-year program Japan for studying NICAM, as well providing an overview current issues regarding use kilometer-scale high-resolution modeling.
